چکیده
We introduce a Bayesian stable isotope mixing model for estimating the relative contributions of different dietary components to tissues consumers within food webs. The is implemented with probabilistic programming language Stan. incorporates isotopes multiple elements (e.g. C, N, H) two trophic levels, when structure web known. In addition, allows inclusion latent levels (i.e. which no empirical data are available) intermediate between sources and measured consumers. Running in simulations driven by real dataset from Finnish lakes, we tested sensitivity posterior distributions altering critical prior parameters assumptions data-generating process. Importantly, found that estimations were particularly sensitive assigned value ω (the fraction H aquatic consumer tissue derived environmental water rather than diet) so reliable this parameter required. When information not available ω, suggest an uninformative should be used. proposed inferences suitable studies where resources collecting new limited, but useful each specific level earlier studies.

Stable Isotope Application in Animal Nutrition Science
The application of stable isotope analysis (SIA) has become a standard scientific approach in Agricultural and Ecological researches and, more in general, in several disciplines such as biology, botany, zoology, organic chemistry, climatology, and nutrition. The main objectives of this paper are (1) to provide a simple definition of stable isotopes and (2) to illustrate analytical measurement m...
متن کاملBayesian sample sizes for exploratory clinical trials comparing multiple experimental treatments with a control.
In this paper, a Bayesian approach is developed for simultaneously comparing multiple experimental treatments with a common control treatment in an exploratory clinical trial. The sample size is set to ensure that, at the end of the study, there will be at least one treatment for which the investigators have a strong belief that it is better than control, or else they have a strong belief that ...
متن کاملEstimating the Diets of Animals Using Stable Isotopes and a Comprehensive Bayesian Mixing Model
Using stable isotope mixing models (SIMMs) as a tool to investigate the foraging ecology of animals is gaining popularity among researchers. As a result, statistical methods are rapidly evolving and numerous models have been produced to estimate the diets of animals--each with their benefits and their limitations. Deciding which SIMM to use is contingent on factors such as the consumer of inter...
متن کاملSource Partitioning Using Stable Isotopes: Coping with Too Much Variation
BACKGROUND Stable isotope analysis is increasingly being utilised across broad areas of ecology and biology. Key to much of this work is the use of mixing models to estimate the proportion of sources contributing to a mixture such as in diet estimation. METHODOLOGY By accurately reflecting natural variation and uncertainty to generate robust probability estimates of source proportions, the ap...
